World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

June 18th, 2019

How many of you are aware of elder abuse? Do you know that elder abuse and exploitation is a growing and under-reported problem? Elder abuse is an important public health problem and it is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a single or repeated act, or lack of inappropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person.

Types of Elder Abuse and How to Recognize It

Elder abuse can lead to physical injuries, ranging from minor scratches and bruises to broken bones and disabling injuries; or sometimes, even serious and long lasting psychological consequences, such as depression or anxiety. Prevention of elder abuse requires effort from all parties. If you are an elder who is being abused, or you witness an elderly being abuse or neglected, please do not hesitate to report the situation to the authorities.

Elder abuse is not tolerated in My Aged Care. Here, we treat every elderly resident here in My Aged Care with respect and care. We ensure their physical health as well as their mental health being is taken care of.
